GV GALLERY TO HOST COLLECTIBLES & FINE ART AUCTIONS: Mill Street Gallery Sets Sept. 5th for Back to Back Auctions
Grass Valley, August 23, 2004 -- Mill Street Gallery will host 2 consecutive auctions over Labor Day Weekend, on Sunday, September 5th -- a Stamps, Coins & Collectibles Auction from 10:00 a.m. to noon; and a Fine Art Auction from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. -- at the air-conditioned Gallery, 120 Mill Street, Downtown Grass Valley. Admission will be free to the public and refreshments will be served. Seating is very limited so reservations are strongly advised. There will be an online preview of auction lots on ejgold.com and hei-art.com during the week before the auction.

The Stamps, Coins & Collectibles Auction will include U.S.gold and silver coins, Sterling Silver Coin Jewelry, currency, stamps, vintage advertising, animal figurines, dollhouse furniture, animation art, casino chips, clocks, comics, Egyptiana, Disney television props, fantasy figures, American woodcuts, diecasts, daguerrotypes, science fiction memorabilia, religious items and swords. The Fine Art Auction will feature important Picasso, Miro, Matisse, Dali, Renoir, and Chagall works, as well as WPA artists, antique California paintings, and many work by local Nevada County artists.

Auctioneering will be veteran auctioneer and local Jazz artist E.J. Gold. “Attending an auction with E.J. at the podium can be both an education, and a hoot!” exclaims Beverly Korenwaser, late of Los Angeles and now on the staff of Heidelberg Editions International, Gold's art publisher. “He's one of the funniest comedians I've ever seen. He's also very fair to buyers, as an auctioneer.”

“Many people have asked me what the auctions are like. Attendees can expect a relaxed and jovial atmosphere where one can bid or not as they wish,” says HEI's David Franco. “Bidding ordinarily starts at $1.00 or a small fraction of the value of the item (called a “lot”) being auctioned. Sometimes there is a 'reserve' on an item, meaning it won't trade unless a certain amount is exceeded, but mostly there are no reserves.”

Mill Street Gallery is air-conditioned. There is free parking in the rear on Bank Street. Call 271-2239 or 271-2222 for more information.
